About Callistemon House

Callistemon House provides accommodation in a safe and caring environment for isolated and remote students, to enable them to develop fully their academic, physical, emotional and social potential.

Callistemon House opened its doors in 1997 to help ensure that children from remote areas in the Northern Territory would not be disadvantaged academically and accommodated as close as possible to their families.

Callistemon House has a professional team of staff committed to providing a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment for boarding students to thrive.

We look to our Values of Respect, Inclusion, Effort and Resilience to inform everything we do, and take a considered approach to students’ physical health, mental well-being and academic progress.

We Strive To

  • Recognise and foster the individual talents and potential of each student
  • Encourage students to participate actively in the academic, social, cultural and recreational aspects of our community
  • Help students to grow towards maturity with developing confidence, self-discipline and integrity.
  • Guide students towards responsible and independent decision-makers.
  • Establish effective study and work patterns

Living in a boarding environment enables students to learn how to live harmoniously with others. Students learn to respect personal differences and to develop socially. The emphasis is placed on respect and trust within the boarding environment. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, but carefully supervised with a high level of Duty of Care to ensure wellbeing of all staff and students at Callistemon.

We recognise that we live a diverse world. With collaboration and a daily commitment to compassionate and considerate behaviour, we celebrate diversity in all its forms and commit to creating a school that is safe and welcoming for all. We have a wonderful diversity of students that reflects that of the Northern Territory.

Our focus is promoting a strong academic culture, celebrating difference and providing consistent pastoral care via structure and daily routines. We seek to provide a caring home away from home with the feel of a family. We strive for our students to learn how to live, work, and enjoy life together.
